Volunteer

Picture
A Home for EveryBunny is totally run by volunteers. We have numerous opportunities to help rabbits all over the state of Iowa. Some jobs are on-going and some are one-offs. Please see the list of volunteer duties below for descriptions and estimated commitment times.

If you are interested in signing up to be a volunteer, please fill out the volunteer application (link below). Our volunteer coordinators will be in touch after they've had a chance to review your application. All volunteer applications are subject to a background check.
In-person events
  • Expos: we need help setting up, working the booth, and tearing down. This involves carrying heavy things and talking to the public.
  • Educational: this requires a knowledge of rabbit care and a willingness to interact with the public in a variety of settings. Also involves set up and tear down.
  • Fundraising events: can include events like Egg My House (stuffing eggs with candy and hiding them in people's yards), Bunny Spas (nail trims and grooming skills needed), and other various events.
Transportation
  • Driving bunnies to and from vet appointments, adoption meets, or events.
  • Estimated commitment: variable, based on needs.
  • Please note: we currently cannot offer compensation for gas and mileage. Volunteers use their own vehicles.
Adoption Interview Team
  • Conducting phone interviews with potential adopters.
  • Estimated commitment: one hour per week. Requires communicating with adoption team.
Operation Rescue
  • We occasionally need volunteers to rescue rabbits who have been dumped in the wild. This involves being outside for long periods of time, trying to catch bunnies, and could include crawling through brush.
  • This is done on an as-needed basis. If you like spontaneous adventure, this team is for you!
Administrative/Database Projects:
  • Update vet list annually
  • Database administration
  • Online store inventory
  • More TBD

Foster

A Home for EveryBunny is entirely foster-based. All our rabbits are housed in homes until they are adopted as we have no physical rescue location. Because of this, our space is very limited. We typically have 20+ rabbits on a waiting list just for a foster home.

So how do foster homes work?
The foster home provides the following:
  • Daily fresh veggies and occasional fruit as a treat
  • Litter/bedding
  • Space (at least a 4'x4' exercise pen)
  • Love

Foster homes also are asked to provide their foster coordinator with photos, and information about the rabbit's personality. They may also asked to meet with potential adopters (with the help of our foster team) to help facilitate the adoption process from time to time.

What does the rescue supply?

A Home for EveryBunny will supply all initial materials a home needs to get started, if needed. This includes a 4x4ft exercise pen, a litter box, pellets, hay, some enrichment items, and anything else necessary.

Ongoing support:

The rescue supplies all hay and pelleted food for the foster buns.
We will provide continuous support and assistance on behavior or medical needs.
We will provide and pay for all medical needs.
Foster homes have access to rescue pricing for bi-monthly orders with Oxbow.

Through our foster Facebook group, email, or phone, a representative of the rescue is always available to foster homes and will assist as necessary.
